How to use the KHIND microwave safely

What starts with the letter “m” and is always in the kitchen? No, it's not your mum or a maid–it’s the microwave! And when it’s too late to cook, or you have food that’s gone cold, guess who comes to the rescue? That’s right, the microwave!

It zaps cold food back to life, and even turns food mishaps into tasty triumphs! But hold on to your chef's hat, because, like any superhero, the microwave does have some safety rules. And don’t worry, these rules aren’t rocket science.

Here’s a few basic rules when it comes to microwaves:

Microwaving metal is a no-no

  • This includes kitchen utensils and aluminium foil
  • Can spark and cause a fire

Use microwave-safe containers, plates, and materials

  • Glass and ceramic items are safe to microwave
  • For anything paper or plastic, look for microwave-safe symbols first

Make sure there is an opening

  • Don’t close the container tightly; leave it slightly open to let out steam
  • Food can overheat and explode if too tightly sealed

Clean your microwave

  • Dirt can gather and affect the microwave’s functionality
  • Use a damp cloth to wipe the walls, top, and bottom of the microwave, either after it cools down or at least once a week

You've got this, microwave maestro! Just remember these five simple rules, and you’ll be all set for a safe and sensational microwave experience. Happy cooking, and may your meals be forever lip-smackingly delicious!
